Day 5 (31 Dec 08): 四季星空民宿 + Alishan 阿里山 + Taipei Countdown 2009
We were supposed to wake up to see sunrise this morning but unfortunately, due to the rainy weather, we could not catch the sunrise at all. The sun was covered by the clouds. We actually went all the way there to catch the sunrise so it was pretty disappointing not to see it. After breakfast, we took a bus to Alishan with the directions given by the boss of the 民宿. Arrived at Alishan at bout 10.30am and it was raining there. As we missed the train, we had to walk in to the阿里山森林游乐区. It was long walk in but we talk & joke along the way. I think winter is not a good season to visit Alishan cause it rained and temperature there was only 7 degrees. There wasn’t much tourist there too. Think the best season to visit there is spring when you can see the sakura bloom. We were in the park till 1pm and bought lunch from 7-11 on our way out. The transport that we booked to take us to the Speed Rail Station came at 1.30pm. The journey down Alishan was horrible. Both YY & I got car sick cause the driver was driving pretty fast and there many twist & turns. As I was sleeping on the way up, I didn’t know that the road was that bad. The driver had to stop twice to let us vomit. Once for YY and the other time was for me. The rest was also feeling a bit sick so we stopped to get some fresh air and also let our stomach settle down. I was still feeling sick during the 2nd half of the journey but I try to sleep it off. I was so happy when we finally arrived at the Rail Station. As we were early, we changed our tickets to an earlier train back to Taipei. Arrived in Taipei at about 4.30pm and we went back to the hotel to wash up and rest before going for dinner & countdown. Went for dinner at bout 8pm and took a slow walk to the venue of the Countdown 2009 concert near Taipei 101. On our way there, we saw Taiwanese singer 许茹芸 and even took a picture with her. I am not really a fan of her but since YY is her fan, I approached her to ask to take a picture. She is very pretty and friendly. She even chatted with us after taking the picture. I am impressed with her. We managed to get a spot at the concert venue. We could catch both the concert & fireworks at Taipei 101. It was pretty cold in Taipei that night. It was only 12 degrees. Lucky the place was packed so you won’t feel that cold. I am so happy that I was able to catch my fav singers such as 梁静茹, 张惠妹 & 五月天 sang at the concert. The fireworks were also very spectacular. It feels great to be able to catch it live in Taipei. It also feels good to welcome 2009 with a group of close friends. I hope that I can spend many more such overseas countdowns with my friends moving forward. It was a lot of fun. The concert finished at 1am and we walked back to the hotel. It was almost 2am when we slept. We decided to give the strawberry park a miss on the next morning since the weather wasn’t that good and most of us were pretty tired.
