Shaolin Girl

Cheryl & I went to watch this really crappy movie yesterday. Its called "Shaolin Girl". Its is a production from Stephen Chow so the story is actually similar to "Shaolin Football". Shaolin Girl tells the story of a girl by the name of Rin, who is compelled to take over her late grandfather’s kung-fu dojo. She endures 3,000 days of brutal training at the Shaolin Martial Arts School in China before returning to her nartive Japan. But what awaits her is a dojo that lies in tatters and students who have abandoned the true discipline of Shaolin kung-fu.While struggling to restore her grandfather’s school to its former glory and spread a genuine Shaolin philosophy, Rin attends university where she becomes the star member of the lacrosse team. While Rin’s exceptional physical abilities being a string of victories to the team, her teammates in turn come to her aid by helping her reestablish the dojo. Just as fortune seems to smile upon her, a dark incident from a past Rin knew nothing about rears its ugly head and throws her into a fantastic showdown with tremendous evil. I felt that the movie is crappy cause its got Stephen Chow humour in it but in a more gentle manner. Maybe because the cast are all Japanese and they are known to be more cultured. Its not easy for them to portray Stephen Chow's style. Well I do not recommend watching it in the theatre cause its a waste of money. Just wait for it to be loaded in one of those websites where you can watch for free.

Respect or Timid

Today I am not going to talk about whether a man is timid or not. I am going to tell the ladies out there that if your boyfriend or husband gives in to you too much, its not a good sign. I heard about this guy who gives in to his girlfriend alot and he is also very afraid of his girlfriend. I am not sure if this is out of respect or his girlfriend is very fierce by nature. He is such a good man that everyone envy his girlfriend for having such a good boyfriend. No one would expect that this man will cheat behind his girlfriend's back. He is someone who needs to report his whereabouts to his girlfriend but now he can find excuses to meet other women. I wonder if its because of his girlfriend's control that he became like that. I feel that the more you wanna control a person, the more rebellious he/she will become. Respect comes from both parties in a relationship. Dun expect your partner to respect or listen to you all the time but you are not doing the same. Everyone has their own dignity. As a girl, you should always give your partner some respect when you are out with his friends. The last thing your partner need is for his friends to think that he is a girlfriend/wife's slave. If you control your partner all the time, its time to reflect on your own actions before its too late. I am not saying that they will cheat on you but if they do meet someone who can give them the respect they want, then it will be too late to save this relationship. As for the guys out there, if you think you need some respect from your girlfriend/wife, then tell her and dun use this as a reason to cheat.

Remember a relationship is about compromise, communication & respect.

Performance Appraisal

Just did my 2008 performance appraisal with my boss few days ago. I am glad that she gave a pretty good rating. Let's just say its not worse than last year's one. I can see that she is happy with my performance and is keen to groom me to do more so that I can move on to a better position. I also feel that I have been quite stagnant in my current job. Its about time for me to pick up new skills. I really dun know how long I am gonna stay in this Company. I am not actively looking for a new job but I will not hesitate to move on if the opportunity comes around. I am the type who goes for the job with the best pay. An opportunity did come by recently but I decline the offer for an interview cause its my ex-company. I am really not keen to go back there again so might as well not waste the time of the interviewer. Well, maybe I can hang around and see if I have the opportunity to work with my ex-boss again. Its not easy working for her but I really learnt alot from her. Anyway stay tune to my blog for more updates. Will definitely update if I have any good news.

Very happy today cause bought a Japanese magazine from Kinokuniya that came with a pair of Bathing Ape slippers + slipper bag. DF Gathering 20 Jun 08

We had a DF gathering on 2o Jun to celebrate Daphne's birthday. This time we didn't go to our regular place which is St James. We met for dinner at Waraku Japanese Restaurant located at Central. We had Edy, Cheryl, YY, Daphne, Beng, Eileen, Kai Ee & me who were there for dinner. There were 4 guys & 4 gals and it looks as if we were there for matchmaking. The pix below is what I had for dinner. It looks yummy but didn't really taste good and the noodles look like our hor fun. Dun think I will eat this again when I go there the next time. The 2nd pix is Daphne's dinner which is pasta with crab. Think it looks & taste yummy.

After dinner, we decided to proceed to Dbl O for party. Edy & Beng didn't join but we had Sharol who came with a fren of hers. We went there before 10pm to avoid the cover charges. We couldn't get any table by the time we got in so could only hang around at the bar counter. There was a Hip Hop dance competition there that night but we didn't get to watch it cause there were too many people standing in front of us. I quite like the crowd there cause they dun have alot of uncles & PRCs. Unfortunately we do look a bit old there since most of the crowd are all youngsters in their 20s. Guess the reason that the place attract so much youngsters is because the drinks there are cheap and good. I enjoyed myself that night except for the diarrhoea I had when I first reach Dbl O. Thats also the main reason I got pretty high that night cause I drank with an empty stomach due to the diarrhoea. The music there is also great for dancing. We ended the night at about 3am. Think we can consider going there the next time.

Difficulties Make Us Strong (taken from SSA Times)

No matter how big or small a company or organisation, there will always be some people who are unpleasant or spiteful. Problems are an inevitable part of life. In other words, difficulties make us strong. The presence of nasty people helps us develop our character and own state of life. Realising that, we must live with strength and courage, facing all challenges with a positive attitude. We grow by struggling with problems and difficulties. This is as true of nations as it is of individuals. Trues victory belongs to those who win in the end. The person who continues fighting every obstacle to the very last is the ultimate victor. We have a choice: Will we take on the ascent and reach life's summit or will we slide miserably down life's slope?

Wii is FUN

My colleague Irene invited some of us to her new place for a mini housewarming party on Sat. She moved into a 3-storey terrace house neat Tanah Merah MRT station this year and we have been wanting to visit her new place. Her place is very well furnished. I also look forward to going there cause she told me that she has Wii at home. I've been wanting to play Wii cause alot of my frens told me its very fun. Finally managed to try it on Sat. We played the bowling, tennis, baseball & fishing games. It was really fun but your hand do get tired after some time. I also tried the Wii fitness which you have to play 3 games and they will access your fitness age. My score was 68 years old. Think its time for me to improve my fitness level. There were many more games such as golf, pool, racing, yoga etc. Many of us were tempted to buy after trying it. Think the game also help you to keep fit cause you be able to exercise even at home.

Sex & the City (SATC)

Finally went to watch the movie "Sex & the City" on last Sat with Cheryl. We have been wanting to watch it since the day it screened but we were away in Bintan last week. We decided to catch the 1.15pm show at Shaw Lido. Missed a bit of the starting cause I waited for Cheryl till 1.30pm. Still had to go in first cause she remembered the time wrongly as 1.45pm and may not reach there on time. Those who had watched the TV serial of the SATC may not like it cause it seems like its about 4 women's love & sex life. I have never watched the serial but I quite like the movie cause it tells us about true love & marriage. Many women in real life refuse to forgive their partner when they find out that they cheated on them. I guess sometimes we have to find out the reason for the betrayal. Nothing is unforgivable if you truly love the person but provided he/she is willing to admit the mistake and change for the better. If you ever forgive the person, make sure you also forget the matter and never bring it up in your life again. Never allow it to leave a scar in your love life. The most important thing is never to make the same mistake twice. Always learn from your mistakes.

Office PC Crashed

When I was still happily doing my work in the office today at about 4.30pm, my PC suddenly shut down and refuse to boot up. Some colleagues helped to check and found that my CPU had crashed. I immediately request for our IT colleagues to come and check but no one came when I left my office at about 6.30pm. I am now praying hard that it wasn't the harddisk that crashed cause I saved alot of important work info in there and if it crashed, I don't know how to continue working. I am starting to believe YY that my current seat has got very bad fengshui, I sat there for less than 2 weeks and my PC crashed today. I really dun know what other bad things is gonna happen to me moving forward but I am definitely praying very hard.

Bintan Trip 7-8 June 2008

Finally went for our Bintan trip which we have been planning since March. Our tour mates include Eileen, Cheryl, Sharol, Serene, Sai Kit, Edy & gf Chi Ing + myself. We were at Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal at 8am cause we were taking the 9.10am ferry to Bintan. Arrived in Bintan at about 10.10am. We proceed straight to the Nirwana Gardens Resort. Upon arriving at the resort, we went for our lunch at the Poolside cafe cause the villa was not ready yet. It started to rain while we were having lunch. By the same we got to the villa, it was pouring heavily. We decided to go play beach volleyball since most of activities are not open due to the rain. The rain didn't dampen our spirit in wanting the have lots of fun during this trip.

After the volleyball game, we went on the do kayaking. This is my first time kayaking and I think its quite fun. After kayaking, we proceed to Go Karting. We wanted to try the ATV (All-Terrain-Vehicle) but unfortunately the facility is under renovation. The cost for Go Karting is more expensive than the one we tried in Batam and the track is also smaller. We still enjoyed the activity but preferred the one at Batam. After Go Karting, we went back to the villa to wash up before continuing with our next activity - Night Mangrove Tour. Heard the tour is quite popular so we made advance booking before even coming to Bintan. Lucky the rain had stopped, if not we won't be able to go for the tour. The main attraction for this tour is we can see fireflies. This is the first time in my life that I see fireflies. They are really gorgeous. Just like tiny little stars handing from the trees. We even tried catching them. Too bad their life span is short, they can only live for 60 days. Well, good things are meant to have a short life span. Just like happy times are always short.

After the tour, we went to a nearby Kelong to have our seafood dinner. We ordered the set meal for 8 pax and we had sharksfin, chicken,fish, prawn, crab, scallop etc. The food is good and servings are also big but the price is not cheap. Its almost the same as our seafood restaurants. We finished at almost 11pm. Went back to the villa to celebrate birthday for Sharol & Chi Ing who were born in the month of June. They were both pretty surprised that I managed to get a cake for them. I acutally had to go to the cafe personally to collect the cake and nearly lost my way back cause it was too dark. We paid for Sharol's trip to Bintan as a birthday gift and I really hope she like it. After that, we quickly showered and climb into our beds cause we were all so tired.

We gathered at 9am the next morning to have breakfast at the cafe. The food is not too bad compare to other resorts in Malaysia & Batam that we have been to. After breakfast, we took a walk around the resort and also played archery & air rifle. I like to play air rifle cause I played before when I was in school in NCC. Haven tried for many years but lucky my skills are still good. Didn't managed to hit all the targets but still hit some. I even managed to hit 2 cans with 1 pallet but that is purely luck. After these activities, we went back to the hotel to packed our things to prepare for check out. After checking out, we still have some time cause we taking the 5.30pm ferry back to S'pore. Some of us decided to go to the pool & beach for a dip. After the dip, we washed up and proceed to have our late lunch. After lunch, we depart for the ferry terminal for our way back to S'pore. Overall its a pretty good trip cause we made full use of the time spent there. But there were still some disappointments:

- Edy didn't managed to play the Jet Ski cause we forgot about it

- Sai Kit & me didn't get to play the ATV

- Cheryl didn't get her tan cause there wasn't much sun due to the rain

- Eileen was sick so she couldn't participate in most of the activities

Think we probably have to go back there again since we left out some activities. Hope the weather is better the next time.

Chronicles of Narnia - Prince Caspian

Its been some time since I wrote my last blog. Many things had happened in these few days. Let me start with my review on the movie:"Chronicles of Narnia - Prince Caspian". I have been a fan of Narnia since I watched part 1 of the sequence a year back. Been waiting the continuation to come. I love the scenery & graphics of this movie. The story is great too. Best of all is Prince Caspian is very good looking. I enjoyed the movie and am looking forward to my next one which is "Sex & the City".
