SGI President Ikeda explained how we can live each day to the fullest:”Those who wake up every morning with work to accomplish and a mission to fulfill are the happiest people of all. For us each day is one of supreme purpose & satisfaction. For us each day is New Year’s Day. Please exert yourself vigorously with the determination to live each day to the fullest, so that you may compose a golden diary of life.”
Any work can make us happy as long as we take it as an accomplishment and as a mission we want to fulfill. On the other hand if we take work as a chore, a burden, we only feel miserable. Most people take work as a chore. But why not consider the fact that since we have to do it, why not do it happily with a sense of accomplishment? It’s all up to us really; it’s all up here in our heads (minds) or in our hearts. If we think positive, everything becomes positive. So if we do otherwise, things become negative.
Of course we may not expect each day to be free from obstacles. If we look beyond the superficial, we realize that most of the time such obstacles actually come from within, from our weak life conditions. When we wake up on the “wrong side of the bed”, we become moody & testy. We run out of patience quickly. We cannot hold our emotions appropriately. We become over-sensitive, sometimes we may even “explode” prematurely.
Let us be determined to keep ourselves happy no matter what, no matter where we are. Tell ourselves we do not want to let anyone or anything make us unhappy or miserable. In other words, we must control out mind. We must not let our minds control us. Don’t just do things we like, instead we should learn to like the things we do (or have to do).
