Day 1 - 21 Dec 2007 (Fri)
Took the 12.35pm flight and arrived in Taipei at about 4.40pm. Arrived at the hotel (Howard Place Hotel) at 7pm. The sky already turned dark at about 5pm in Taipei cause its winter time. Eileen brought me to 通化街夜市. Ate lots of local delights such as Pork Bun (扣肉包). Their version of the bun is nicer compare to the ones we ate in Singapore. Put on 1kg after the food trip. Hope I can burn off the fats with the shopping and sight seeing.
Day 2 - 22 Dec 2007 (Sat)
Went to 五份埔for shopping today cause alot of my frens who came to Taipei said that the things there are cheap. Eileen has never gone there before so I was the one who brought her there. The clothes & shoes there are pretty cheap if you buy more pieces. The place is quite big so you need at least half a day to shop there. The shops normally open at about 12pm. I bought a top, 2 dresses & a Fred Perry bag. Eileen bought lots of stuff there, she bought 3 pairs of shoes. We left the place at about 5pm cause we wanna go back to dress up to party tonight at Luxy (one of the biggest club in Taipei recommended by Hui Lam). Had dinner at this place call 九如which is located near our hotel and the food is very yummy. I had a豆沙粽子 & 芝麻汤圆 and both taste very good.
We went to Luxy at about 9pm only to find out that they only open at 10pm. We had to shop around at 忠孝东路while waiting for it to open. Manage to finally get into the club at about 10.30pm. The entrance fee is NT800 (with 2 free drinks) cause they had Machi performing that night. There were 2 zones in the club, one is Hip Hop and the other is Trance/Techno. We were at the Hip Hop zone most of the time cause the music is nicer. We saw quite alot of Singaporeans there. The Taipei girls are very hot & sexy when they go clubbing and I think S'pore girls has got alot to learn. The only thing is that we can dance better. I seriously think that Taiwanese cannot dance well. What happen to those hot babes we saw on TV that can do Hip Hop very well??? Machi started performing at only about 1.30am and by then we were tired and decided to leave. I managed to only catch a glance of Machi, so sad. Will still go there again if I ever come back to Taipei. Its a pretty cool club.
Day 3 - 23 Dec 2007 (Sunday)
We had decided to go 九份today since alot of places are packed on Sunday. Didn't managed to wake up early cause we went clubbing the night before. Only left the hotel at about 12.30pm. Manged to catch the 2pm bus to 九份. The bus ride took us about 2hrs cause there were traffic jams along the way. It was raining heavily when we there. We only went up a short portion of the street, found a nice cosy place to have a hot drink and made our way down after buying some local snacks. We left the place at about 6.30pm. Went back to the hotel to change into dry clothes & shoes before going out for dinner & more shopping at 忠孝东路.
Day 4 - 24 Dec 2007 (Monday)
Yeh, its Christmas Eve in Taipei. Eileen finally brought me to 西门丁to shop today. We went there around noon time cause the shops don't open that early. We had 阿宗面线there and its quite tasty. Continue my shopping trip in Taipei. I bought some clothes there. Realize the service in Taipei is really good especially if they know that you are not a local. They will offer a better price for tourist and they allow you to try the clothes (normally they dun allow local to try). Left 西门丁at about 7pm cause we are going partying tonight again to celebrate Christmas Eve. We had dinner at 点水楼 @ Sogo cause it was highly recommended by Irene. The restaurant is more expensive version of 鼎泰奉. The 小笼包is not as nice as 鼎泰奉 but the chicken soup is really good.
We had wanted to go to Ministry of Sound but we couldn't seem to get into the website to check the charges & operating hours. Decided to proceed to this place call Room 18 which was recommended by the hotel concierge. I heard about it before cause alot of Taiwan celebs always had their private parties there. This time I managed to call and check the opening time (10.30pm) & charges (NT700 with 2 drinks). We were there at about 10.45pm and there was already a queue there. We got to know 2 Singaporeans (Raymond & Jamie) who were queueing up in front of us. We decided to spend the night partying together. There ain't much Christmas mood in Taipei, guess maybe they dun celebrate Christmas. Room 18 is also a great place cause the music is just as good and the crowd there is also fun. One thing that I didn't mention earlier is the drinks are good, unlike those free drinks in S'pore which they dun put enough alcohol. I was already a bit high after 2 Whiskey Coke & 1 Lychee Martini. We partied till about 2am. Managed to get Jamie's number so that we can get the photos taken from her. Overall, its a happening Christmas night for me this year even though I miss all my frens in S'pore. Anyway promise to spend the New Year Eve countdown with them so more partying before the year ends.
Day 5 - 25 Dec 2007 (Tues)
Its Christmas day today! Our itinerary today is to visit 淡水&渔人码头 follow by 士林夜市. We didn't manage to wake up early so had to give 北投温泉 a miss. Lunch was at 鼎泰奉 cause we had to try the Taiwan version of it. The food is nicer & cheaper than the S'pore branches. Reach there at about 3pm and we had a coffee break at Dunkin Donuts. Its really nice to sit by the sea and enjoy a hot coffee. Just realize that the branches for Mister Donut is all over Taipei. Heard that there used to be long queues when they first started in Taipei but now there are so many outlets so hardly any queues. I did buy one to try and I must say it really taste good. We then took a ferry to 渔人码头. The ferry ride was pretty exciting cause we were standing outside and we didn't know that the sea would be so rough. Thank goodness we reach 渔人码头 in one piece. Thought I was going to get sea sick. 渔人码头 is a pretty nice place and there is this bridge call 白色情人桥. Maybe it is call that cause there is alot of lovers who goes there for dates. The ferry ride back to 淡水 really made me sea sick. We walk around the shops in 淡水 to buy some local delicacies before making our way to 士林夜市. There is a night market there where you can continue your shopping for more clothes & shoes. I was pretty disappointed with 士林夜市 food market cause I was expecting a street of food stalls but only to realize that it is a food market like our hawker centre. What makes it worse is that the stalls sell almost the same stuff. There are at least 6-8 stalls that sells 蚝仔煎. But I must say that the 蚝仔煎 is very yummy. I actually ate from 2 different stalls and one of them is the one that 小猪 learn how to cook this dish in 转角遇到爱. I also ate 蚝仔面线 and the super big chicken cutlet (bigger than my face lor). The food there are all very delicious but think I will check out other 夜市the next time I visit Taipei.
Day 6 - 26 Dec 2007 (Wed)
Today is our last day in Taipei before we depart for S'pore tomolo. Eileen decided to bring me to Taipei 101. Taipei 101 is one of the tallest building in Asia (I think lah, not very sure also). The place is basically a branded shopping mall. I actually shop in the mall for 2hrs without buying anything. I didn't go up to the building cause think the entrance fee is a bit expensive lah, me super broke already. We then proceed to NewYork New York & Mitsukoshi for more shopping. I end up buying a pair of shoes at Mitsukoshi. Also bought more local snacks cause going back to S'pore soon. Met up with Eileen's aunties & cousins for dinner. They brought us to this Japanese restaurant near our hotel and the food is also very yummy. After dinner, we decided to go for a ride at one of the latest attraction in Taipei : 猫空缆车. Its a cable car ride that brings you up the the mountain where there were alot of teahouses. We were simply there to enjoy the cable car ride so didn't go to the teahouses. The ride is very worth cause it cost us about S$5 for both ways and the journey up & down is about 30mins each. Its a pretty good experience and you can see Taipei city night scenery from the top too.
Day 7 - 27 Dec 2007 (Thurs)
Today is our last day in Taipei. We cannot really go far cause we need to leave the hotel by 1.30pm to make way to the airport. Decided to shop around our hotel vicinity. We walked down to 忠孝东路 to get some bread for my mom. Managed to also locate the Bape Store in Taipei and I took some pictures outside the shop. Didn't buy anything there since I be going to Tokyo in March. Did some last minute shopping and proceed back to hotel with lunch from 永和豆浆. Dun know why but the food from 永和豆浆 is also nicer than the one in S'pore. Finished our lunch in the hotel room and then proceed to check out at about 1.30pm to wait for the airport transfer bus. Reached the airport at about 3pm. Had to wait for the counter to open at 3.30pm before we could check in to our flight. I actually checked in 36kg of luggage. Lucky the airline did not charge me for excess baggage. Besides buying lots of local snacks, I also had to help Hui Lam buy instant beef noodles (6 x 3 = 18packets) and guess those weigh about 2-3kg. Must figure out how to carry all the stuff back home later cause my house is not on the lift landing. Our flight is at 6pm so we had to shop around in the airport. Found a shop that sells Hello Kitty stuff there. Finally board the plane for our flight back to S'pore. Touch down at about 10.05pm and this ends our 7D6N trip in Taipei. Many thanks to Eileen for inviting me to join her for this trip. I finally understand why so many S'poreans prefer to visit Taiwan rather than Hong Kong. The food is nicer, the people are friendlier, the shopping is not too bad though things are expensive and the clubbing are just as good as S'pore. Thinking of visiting Taipei again in 2008, maybe can go there for New Year Eve countdown. Looking forward to my next visit to Taiwan.......
Live each day, as if there is no tomorrow. Be Happy. Give Thanks. Yesterday is history, Tomorrow is mystery, Today is a GIFT.
